In a major infrastructure push for the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has accelerated work on the much-awaited signal-free connector linking Atal Setu to the Mumbai-Pune Expressway. This ambitious project is expected to significantly improve travel efficiency and strengthen connectivity between Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, and Pune.

The upcoming corridor spans approximately 7.35 kilometres and is designed as a high-capacity, signal-free route. It will connect Atal Setu near Chirle to the Mumbai-Pune Expressway via key junctions like Palaspe, ensuring seamless traffic movement without interruptions.

Officials have set a target to complete the project by February 2027, with construction already crossing the halfway mark. Over 50% of the work has been completed, including major structural elements such as foundations, piers, and girder installations, indicating steady progress on ground.

One of the biggest advantages of this connector is its impact on travel time. Once operational, the corridor is expected to reduce travel duration between Mumbai and Pune by up to 60–90 minutes, making long-distance commuting faster and more convenient.

The project is also strategically important due to its proximity to key infrastructure such as the Navi Mumbai International Airport, JNPT port, and major highways. It will act as a crucial link in the broader “Mumbai 3.0” development vision, enhancing logistics efficiency and supporting economic growth across the region.

In addition to the main elevated corridor, work is also underway on slip roads and service road widening to ensure smooth entry and exit points along the route. These supporting developments are expected to further ease congestion and improve overall traffic flow in the area.

As infrastructure projects continue to transform Navi Mumbai into a major growth hub, this signal-free connector is being seen as a game-changer for regional connectivity. It not only strengthens transport networks but also opens new opportunities for real estate, business expansion, and faster mobility.

With completion targeted in 2027, the project clearly signals a new phase of development — where Mumbai to Pune travel could soon become faster, smoother, and more efficient than ever before
