Suryakumar Yadav of India led his team to victory in a tight second T20I with an unbeaten 26 off 31 balls. He also hit Blair Tickner over mid-off for the game-winning boundary to tie the three-match series and set up a decisive encounter for Wednesday in Ahmedabad.
The in-form Indian batsman Suryakumar Yadav guided his team to victory in a low-scoring second T20I by smashing an unbeaten 26 off 31 balls, including a winning boundary by smacking Blair Tickner over mid-off to tie the three-match series and set up a finale in Ahmedabad on Wednesday.
India was kept in check by New Zealand’s five spinners on a field that was very helpful to spinners. However, Suryakumar and captain Hardik Pandya put up an unbroken 31-run stand off 32 balls to lead India to victory in their 100-run pursuit.
In a video issued by the BCCI, Player of the Match winner Suryakumar expressed his confidence in his ability to bat at the finish and secure victory for India in the final over.
“I was in the centre of the field with the understanding that it was a difficult wicket to play on and that it was crucial for someone to bat to the very end. Creating modest alliances and being flexible were equally vital.”
“I was aware that this wicket was entirely different from the ones I normally play on. I was sure I could win the game in the last over if I could manage to hold on to the end. We talked when Hardik entered and decided to play the game till the very end.”
When questioned about the strain of needing three runs off the final two balls, he said, “We were certain that we would win the game, and Hardik and I were discussing how the match would be ours if any of us received the decisive blow. We remained calm, and communicating with Hardik was crucial.”
Suryakumar, in a lighthearted moment, thanked Yuzvendra Chahal for his batting advice and stated, “I appreciate you; I’m following your batting advice. You are my pitching instructor. He teaches me everything, Sab sikhata hai yeh.”
In the video, left-arm wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav questions Yuzvendra Chahal, his longtime spin twin, on how it felt to take the most wickets for India in men’s T20Is, which he did during the second T20I.
“Being the top wicket-taker in a given format is satisfying. I never considered this when I began playing.”
