BKC Skywalk Project to Ease Office Travel for Thousands of Commuters

BKC Skywalk

Mumbai’s Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC), the city’s most prominent business district, is all set to get a dedicated skywalk project that promises to make office commutes faster and safer. This elevated pedestrian corridor is designed to connect key office hubs with Bandra and Kurla local train stations, helping thousands of employees avoid traffic bottlenecks and chaotic footpaths.

According to officials from the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), the BKC Skywalk will cover approximately 1.5 km, linking corporate hubs with the suburban railway and upcoming metro stations. This move aims to address the growing congestion caused by the increasing number of daily commuters to BKC, which hosts major banks, multinational corporations, and government offices.

One of the biggest advantages of this project is pedestrian safety. Currently, employees have to navigate through heavy traffic and narrow roads during peak hours. The skywalk will provide an exclusive, weather-protected, and well-lit walkway, reducing the risk of accidents and improving overall walking comfort—especially during Mumbai’s unpredictable monsoon season.

Urban transport experts believe that such pedestrian-first projects can significantly reduce last-mile traffic by encouraging people to walk safely to nearby public transport instead of using taxis or private vehicles for short distances.

The BKC Skywalk is also expected to integrate with the upcoming Mumbai Metro Lines 2B and 3, making it easier for commuters to shift between different transport modes. Additionally, authorities are considering adding seating zones, CCTV cameras, and greenery along the walkway, offering a world-class experience to pedestrians.

The project is currently under construction and is expected to be ready for public use by mid-2026. Once operational, it is likely to decongest roads, reduce travel stress, and enhance the daily commute experience for office-goers in one of Mumbai’s busiest hubs.
