New Delhi, August 3, 2025:
In a major step towards Digital India, post offices across the country are set to accept digital payments for their services. The move aims to modernize postal services and provide a faster, cashless experience to millions of customers.
Under the upcoming initiative, customers will be able to pay for postal services using UPI, credit/debit cards, and mobile wallets. The integration will be rolled out in phases, starting with major city branches, followed by rural post offices.
Officials from India Post highlighted that the digital payment system will:
- Reduce the need for cash transactions
- Speed up bill payments, postage, and banking services
- Improve transparency and customer convenience
With over 1.5 lakh post offices in India, the introduction of digital payments is expected to revolutionize citizen services, especially in rural areas where post offices often act as mini‑banks.
The service is likely to go live within the next few months, making everyday transactions at post offices seamless and cashless.
