Samantha shared the movie’s news on her social media pages as well. The movie’s initial release date was set for November 2022, and it also has Dev Mohan in the major role.

However, a decision to distribute the movie in 3D format was made at the last minute, delaying its release until February 2023. “We strive to deliver a bigger experience with Shaakuntalam and immerse you in the World of Shaakuntalam, for which we as a team felt 3D would be a brilliant way,” the official statement stated. We would need some time to put this together, therefore we would be unable to achieve the earlier stated release date. We appreciate the love and support people have shown us from all over the world, and we hope you will do the same. A new release date will shortly be revealed by us.

The account of Shakuntala and her courtship with King Dushyant is told in Shaakuntalam, a work by Kalidasa, which also details the curse of the rishi Durvasa that caused Dushyant to forget his love for the ‘apsara’-like Shakuntala. The five-year-old daughter of Telugu actor Allu Arjun, Allu Arha, makes her acting debut in the movie as well.

Prakash Raj, Madhubala, Gautami, Aditi Balan, Ananya Nagalla, and Jisshu Sengupta are also present in Shaakuntalam.
