Mumbai Rains Cause Major Waterlogging and Traffic Disruptions Again Today

Mumbai Rains, July 27 – Once again, Mumbai was battered by torrential rains today, leading to severe waterlogging in low-lying areas, major traffic jams, and disruption of public transportation. Several roads, including major arterial routes, were submerged, severely impacting office-goers and commuters.

Train and Traffic Disruptions

Local train services on the Central and Western lines faced delays of over 30 minutes. BEST buses had to reroute due to flooding in areas such as Sion, Kurla, Dadar, and Andheri. The Eastern Express Highway saw slow-moving traffic from morning hours due to knee-deep water in several stretches.

“The rainfall started around 4 AM and within hours, multiple parts of the city were waterlogged,” said a BMC official.

🏫 Schools & Offices Affected

Several private schools declared a half-day or switched to online classes. Office attendance in corporate parks was visibly lower, especially in Lower Parel and BKC.

🛠️ BMC’s Response

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) deployed emergency response teams with pumps in waterlogged zones. However, residents criticized the slow drainage and lack of proactive alerts.

📷 Viral Social Media Moments

Videos of buses stranded in water, people wading through waist-deep streets, and autos breaking down near Milan Subway quickly went viral across X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram.

As Mumbai prepares for yet another rainy spell, civic authorities are on high alert. IMD forecasts moderate to heavy rainfall to continue over the weekend.
