St. Louis defeats Salt Lake 4-0 to win its fifth straight game thanks to two goals from Joao Klauss.

When St. Louis won its fourth game last weekend, it had already surpassed the Seattle Sounders in 2009 to set the record for the best start by an expansion team.

Saint Louis City defeated Real Salt Lake 4-0 on Saturday night to extend its winning streak to five games in a row to open the season. Joao Klauss scored twice in the triumph.

Only two other MLS teams—the Galaxy in 1996 and Sporting Kansas City in 2012—earned 15 points in their first five games.

When St. Louis won its fourth game last weekend, it had already surpassed the Seattle Sounders in 2009 to set the record for the best start by an expansion team.

After defeating Vancouver in the season opener, Salt Lake (1-3-0) lost two straight games to Seattle and Austin.

Only two minutes into the second half, St. Louis’ expansion draught pick from Orlando, Nicholas Gioacchini, scored on Eduard Lowen’s corner kick.

Brazilian Klauss scored two more goals in the 61st and 66th minutes. Thus far this season, he has scored five goals. The last goal was added in the 76th minute by Rasmus Alm.

Only three previous expansion teams—Toronto (2007), Atlanta (2017), and LAFC—have triumphed at RSL (2018).
