To advance to the Champions League semifinals, Real Madrid defeated wasteful Chelsea.

The host club entered the game at Stamford Bridge with form and history against them and Frank Lampard back in charge for a second stint.

They got off to a strong start but later regretted a number of enormous wasted opportunities that would have put pressure on the reigning champions.

With 10 minutes left, Rodrygo made it 2-0 after scoring in the 58th minute following a quick counterattack for the Spanish giants, who punished Chelsea for their wastefulness.

Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti said to BT Sport, “We endured a lot and helped us stay at 0-0 at the end of the first half.

“We played considerably better in the second half and scored two goals. We are grateful for our qualification.”

When Lampard replaced Graham Potter as caretaker manager earlier this month, Chelsea, the 2021 European champions, have dropped all four of their games.

From early 2019 to the beginning of 2021, Lampard served as the club’s manager and lamented his team’s wastefulness.

He stated, “We played pretty well for 60 minutes. We provided opportunities, but you must seize them.

The former Chelsea midfielder stated that his team’s drive must come from representing the organisation as they prepare for a depressing stretch of the season.
