Mumbai, August 8: In a bold move that pushes India into the global race for ultra-fast connectivity, Reliance Jio has launched the country’s first-ever 6G prototype lab, marking a major milestone in futuristic communication.

The facility, located in Navi Mumbai, is designed to test next-generation network solutions far beyond 5G, including AI-integrated transmission, terahertz frequency bands, and real-time satellite communication trials.

“We’re not just preparing for 6G, we’re building it,” said a senior Jio official. The company aims to set global benchmarks with low-latency, high-speed wireless technology that can transform industries — from telemedicine to smart cities and autonomous mobility.

Experts believe the move will place India on the frontline of the global 6G race, along with nations like the US, South Korea, and China. The lab will serve as a hub for R&D in areas like holographic calls, real-time remote surgeries, and industrial automation powered by AI.

The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has praised the initiative, calling it a “pivotal leap toward India’s goal of becoming a telecom technology leader by 2030.”

While consumer-ready 6G networks are expected globally around 2030, Jio’s early testing infrastructure is seen as a strategic head-start that could redefine how India connects.
