Mumbai, August 9: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Mumbai, predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall across several parts of the city over the next two days. The alert comes amid an active monsoon phase, which has already brought significant downpours to the region.

According to IMD officials, intense rain spells are likely to affect both suburban and central parts of Mumbai, potentially leading to waterlogging, traffic disruptions, and flooding in low-lying areas.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has activated its emergency response teams and urged residents to avoid non-essential travel. Lifeguards have been deployed at beaches, while disaster management units are on standby.

Train and bus services may face delays, and commuters are advised to check for real-time updates before heading out. The IMD has also warned of strong winds along the Mumbai coastline, urging fishermen not to venture into the sea.

Officials recommend keeping emergency kits ready, staying indoors during heavy spells, and avoiding flooded roads to ensure safety.

With monsoon rains expected to persist, Mumbai residents are bracing for challenging days ahead while authorities work to minimise disruption and damage.
