Mumbai witnessed relentless rainfall today, adding yet another chapter to this year’s turbulent monsoon. The downpour began early in the morning, with several low-lying areas like Sion, Dadar, Kurla, and Andheri experiencing severe waterlogging.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) reported over 90 mm of rainfall in just four hours, straining drainage systems and leading to knee-deep water in many parts of the city. Commuters faced significant delays, with major traffic snarls along the Eastern and Western Express Highways.

Local train services on both the Central and Western lines ran late by 15–30 minutes, frustrating office-goers and students. BEST buses were rerouted from flooded areas, while several motorists abandoned vehicles due to engine failure in submerged roads.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Mumbai, warning of intense spells of rain accompanied by gusty winds over the next 48 hours. Authorities have urged residents to stay indoors during heavy showers and avoid waterlogged zones.

While the city is no stranger to monsoon mayhem, this year’s rains have been particularly relentless, pushing civic services to their limits.
