Mumbai witnessed another day of relentless rainfall today, leading to widespread waterlogging, traffic congestion, and delays in local train services. The heavy downpour has created major challenges for commuters, especially during peak morning and evening hours.
Several low-lying areas, including Sion, Dadar, Andheri, and Kurla, reported severe water accumulation, forcing vehicles to move at a snail’s pace. BEST bus routes were diverted, and many office-goers struggled to reach their destinations on time.
The lifeline of the city — Mumbai local trains — also faced significant disruptions. Central and Western line services were delayed, with announcements of precautionary speed restrictions due to waterlogged tracks. Passengers complained about overcrowded compartments and long waiting hours at stations.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Mumbai, predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall in the next 24 hours. Citizens have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel and stay indoors as much as possible.
Despite the challenges, Mumbai’s resilience was once again on display, with local residents helping stranded commuters and distributing food and water in affected areas.
