What is Water Crisis Worsens in Kharghar, Residents Forced to Depend on Tankers?
Water Crisis Worsens in Kharghar, Residents Forced to Depend on Tankers is a trending topic covered by Sejal News Network with latest updates and insights.
A major water shortage has once again hit several parts of Kharghar in Navi Mumbai, leaving residents struggling for daily water supply and forcing many housing societies to rely heavily on private water tankers.
The issue has become severe in multiple sectors, especially between Sectors 30 to 38, where residents claim that water supply has failed to keep pace with rapid urban development in the area. According to reports, Kharghar currently requires nearly 80 MLD (million litres per day) of water, but the actual supply is falling short by around 10 MLD, creating daily hardships for thousands of families.
Kharghar has witnessed massive infrastructure growth in recent years, with projects like Central Park, the golf course, metro connectivity, and upcoming commercial developments increasing population density rapidly. However, residents allege that the basic water infrastructure has not expanded at the same speed.
As a result, many housing societies are now spending huge amounts every month on private tankers just to manage regular household needs. In some areas, residents say they are receiving low-pressure supply for limited hours, making daily routines difficult during peak summer conditions.
Locals have also raised concerns over unequal distribution of water. Citizens claim that while construction activities continue to receive water supply, residential societies are facing repeated shortages. This has triggered frustration among residents, many of whom have been demanding long-term planning instead of temporary tanker solutions.
Authorities have stated that projects under the Hetawane Water Supply Scheme are underway and additional pipelines are being upgraded to improve supply in the coming months. Officials believe that once ongoing infrastructure work is completed, Kharghar could receive an additional 10–15 MLD water supply.
Meanwhile, citizens continue to face uncertainty as tanker dependency increases across the node. The situation has once again highlighted the growing pressure on Navi Mumbai’s civic infrastructure due to rapid urban expansion.
With summer intensifying and demand rising daily, residents are now hoping for a permanent solution instead of temporary relief measures.
