Mumbai: Sunny Deol and Preity Zinta’s period drama Batwara 1947 witnessed a major drop at the box office on its first Monday. After showing some growth during its opening weekend, the film struggled to maintain momentum as weekday collections began.

According to the latest box-office estimates, Batwara 1947 collected around ₹2 crore net in India on Day 4, taking its total domestic net collection to approximately ₹28.50 crore. The Monday collection marked a sharp decline compared with the film’s Sunday earnings.

A Sharp Drop After the Opening Weekend

The film opened with around ₹5.75 crore on its first day before showing significant growth on Saturday, when collections reportedly reached approximately ₹13.50 crore. However, the momentum slowed on Sunday, with the film earning around ₹7.25 crore.

The biggest drop came on Monday. With collections falling to around ₹2 crore, Batwara 1947 registered a decline of more than 70% compared with its Day 3 performance.

Batwara 1947 Approaches ₹30 Crore

Despite the difficult Monday performance, the film is now closing in on the ₹30 crore India net mark. Its performance during the remaining weekdays will be important in determining whether it can recover momentum and establish a stronger theatrical run.

Batwara 1947 is a period drama set against the backdrop of the Partition era and stars Sunny Deol and Preity Zinta in prominent roles. The film’s Independence Day weekend release initially generated attention, but its weekday hold has become a concern following the steep decline.

Awarapan 2 Continues to Lead the Box Office Clash

The box-office competition has also become tougher for Batwara 1947, with Emraan Hashmi and Disha Patani’s Awarapan 2 continuing its strong theatrical run.

While Batwara 1947 saw its collections drop sharply on Monday, Awarapan 2 maintained stronger momentum and moved past the ₹90 crore India net mark, creating a significant gap between the two releases.

What Happens Next?

The coming days will be crucial for Batwara 1947. Crossing the ₹30 crore milestone could provide the film with a positive talking point, but its ability to maintain collections through the weekdays will determine the overall strength of its theatrical run.

For now, Batwara 1947 has faced a challenging first Monday, while Awarapan 2 continues to dominate the current box-office race.
