Shenzhen [China], October 13: OnePlus has officially unveiled the OnePlus 16 in China, introducing a new flagship smartphone with a 200-megapixel main camera, a massive 9,000mAh battery and a display supporting refresh rates of up to 185Hz. Powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 chipset, the phone focuses on performance, gaming, photography and battery life. The launch positions the OnePlus 16 as a premium device for users looking for high-end hardware and extended usage between charges.
The OnePlus 16 features a 6.78-inch LTPO OLED display with a resolution of 1,272 × 2,772 pixels. One of its biggest highlights is the 185Hz maximum refresh rate, designed to deliver smoother visuals, particularly in supported games. Everyday system usage can run at up to 165Hz, while the full 185Hz refresh rate is available in compatible gaming titles. The display also features slim 1.15mm bezels and hardware brightness that can drop to just one nit, which may help make viewing more comfortable in dark environments.
At the heart of the smartphone is Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 processor, built on a 2nm manufacturing process. OnePlus is offering configurations with up to 16GB of RAM and 1TB of internal storage, while the entry-level variant comes with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. The combination of a flagship chipset, high refresh rate screen and generous memory is aimed at demanding applications, multitasking and mobile gaming.
Photography is another major focus of the OnePlus 16. Its rear camera system is led by a 200MP primary sensor measuring 1/1.4 inches, accompanied by a 50MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom and a 50MP ultra-wide camera. On the front, the device features a 50MP selfie camera. The combination of high-resolution hardware and dedicated zoom and ultra-wide cameras gives users greater flexibility when capturing portraits, landscapes and everyday moments. Actual image quality will also depend on image processing, lighting conditions and software optimisation.
The phone packs a 9,000mAh battery, representing one of its most notable upgrades. It supports 100W wired charging and 50W wireless charging, giving users both high-capacity power storage and fast charging options. The larger battery could be particularly appealing to gamers, travellers and people who regularly use their phones for streaming, photography and navigation. However, actual battery endurance will vary depending on screen refresh rate, network connectivity, brightness and usage patterns.
On the software front, the China version of the OnePlus 16 runs ColorOS 17. The smartphone is available in three colour options: Starlight, Dark Forest and Martian Masterpiece. Its design retains a familiar flagship appearance while the internal upgrades concentrate on display performance, camera capabilities and battery capacity.
In China, the base model with 12GB RAM and 256GB storage is priced at CNY 5,999, while the top-end configuration with 16GB RAM and 1TB storage costs CNY 8,499. Open sales in China are scheduled to begin on October 31, 2026. These prices are for the Chinese market and should not be treated as confirmed Indian prices.
For Indian buyers, the key question is whether OnePlus will officially bring the OnePlus 16 to the country and what its local pricing will be. A confirmed India launch date and official Indian pricing have not been established in the information available for this report. Buyers should wait for an announcement from OnePlus before making decisions based on expected availability or converted Chinese prices.
With its 200MP main camera, 185Hz display, Snapdragon flagship processor and 9,000mAh battery, the OnePlus 16 brings several substantial hardware upgrades to the company’s premium smartphone range. Its reception will depend on real-world performance, camera results, battery endurance and software experience, as well as whether the device becomes available in markets beyond China.
