Thane [India], October 31: Residents across several parts of Thane will experience a change in the weekly water supply schedule from November 2, 2026. The Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) has decided to shift its weekly 10% water cut from Wednesday to Monday, affecting localities including Ghodbunder Road, Lokmanya Nagar, Vartak Nagar, Mumbra and parts of Kalwa.
The revised schedule will apply to water supplied through the corporation’s own network as well as the STEM Water Distribution and Infrastructure Company. Residents have been advised to take note of the revised schedule and use water carefully.
Water Cut Schedule Changed From Wednesday to Monday
Earlier, the civic body had announced a 24-hour water shutdown every Wednesday, from 9 am to 9 am the following day. However, following a joint meeting held on October 28 under the leadership of Municipal Commissioner Saurabh Rao, the weekly water cut has been shifted to Monday.
The revised arrangement will come into effect from November 2. The latest announcement confirms a 10% weekly reduction, but the exact shutdown hours for the new Monday schedule have not been specified in the available civic update.
Thane Areas Affected by Water Cut
The revised water management arrangement will affect several residential and commercial areas across the city. The localities identified by the civic authorities include:
- Ghodbunder Road
- Lokmanya Nagar
- Vartak Nagar
- Saket
- Rutu Park
- Jail Area
- Gandhi Nagar
- Rustomjee
- Siddhachal
- Indira Nagar
- Rupadevi
- Shrinagar
- Samata Nagar
- Siddheshwar
- Eternity
- Johnson
- Mumbra
- Some parts of Kalwa
Residents in these areas should plan their daily water requirements according to the revised Monday schedule.
Why Has Thane Introduced Weekly Water Cuts?
The water reduction is part of a broader conservation measure following directions from the Maharashtra government. Authorities have asked local bodies to manage available water reserves carefully and ensure drinking water availability until August 31, 2027.
Concerns over below-normal rainfall and the possible impact of El Niño have prompted civic authorities to take precautionary steps. The 10% reduction is intended to help manage existing water resources and reduce the risk of shortages in the coming months.
Residents Advised to Store Water and Avoid Wastage
The Thane Municipal Corporation has appealed to residents to use water responsibly and make necessary arrangements before the weekly reduction takes effect.
Housing societies and households in the affected areas should keep sufficient water for essential activities, avoid unnecessary consumption and check the latest civic announcements for any changes to the supply schedule.
With the revised arrangement starting November 2, residents are advised to remember that the weekly water cut will now take place on Mondays instead of Wednesdays.
