Delhi [India], August 7:

Kangana Ranaut, a BJP MP, has offered her thoughts on Vinesh Phogat’s “historic” triumph in the women’s 50kg wrestling division at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.

Phogat expressed her gratitude for her accomplishment on Instagram, writing, “I’m crossing my fingers for India’s first gold medal. At one point, Vinesh Phogat participated in demonstrations holding signs that read, “Modi teri Kabr khudegi.” Nevertheless, she was granted the chance to represent the country and was provided with the greatest facilities, coaches, and training. This is the hallmark of a great leader and the beauty of democracy.

Phogat became the first Indian woman to compete in an Olympic wrestling final with a decisive 5-0 victory over Yusneylis Guzman Lopez of Cuba.

Vinesh Phogat, who rose to prominence in the protest against former Wrestling Federation of India chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh—who is accused of sexual harassment—has had a turbulent 18 months.

Phogat was physically yanked by his hair during the protest at India Gate, which turned him into a symbol of resistance against the status quo. Her current performance is an important critique of the governing body for not endorsing her.

Phogat skillfully kept her balance in the semi-final to deny her Cuban opponent control over her leg. She was perfectly positioned to deflect any possible threats. She was given a point for being passive in the first round, which was helpful, but in the second round, she was warned for not being forceful enough.

Early in the year, Punia, Vinesh, and Sakshi Malik organized a protracted sit-in protest in Delhi against the accusation that former Wrestling Federation of India president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh had harassed women wrestlers sexually.

The Indian lioness, Vineesh Phogat, won back-to-back matches today. Olympic champion in contention and four-time world champion defeated. Punia stated on his ‘X’ handle, “After that, he defeated the former World Champion in the quarterfinals.”

She promised to bring back gold and told reporters as she left the arena following a brief video chat with her mother, “Tomorrow is an important day, will talk then.”
