Mirzapur: The Movie is heading towards a strong theatrical debut, with its final advance booking numbers indicating a potential ₹20 crore-plus opening day. The much-awaited film, featuring Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal and Divyenndu, has generated strong interest among fans of the popular crime franchise ahead of its September 4 release.

The theatrical adaptation of the hit Mirzapur universe has crossed an important advance-booking milestone at India’s leading national cinema chains, putting it among the more closely watched releases of the week.

Over 1 Lakh Tickets Sold in National Chains

According to the latest trade tracking, Mirzapur: The Movie had sold around 1.06 lakh tickets across PVR INOX and Cinepolis by 9 PM on September 3.

With several hours still remaining before the advance-booking window closed, the final tally was expected to reach approximately 1.20–1.25 lakh tickets across the two major national chains.

That would put the film’s advance booking at a level comparable to Awarapan 2, another recent Hindi release that recorded a strong theatrical opening.

The latest figures have significantly strengthened expectations surrounding Mirzapur: The Movie.

₹20 Crore Opening Looks Possible

Based on the pace of ticket sales, trade estimates suggest that the film is on course for an opening of more than ₹20 crore net.

There is even a possibility of the film reaching the ₹25 crore mark on Day 1 if bookings and walk-in audiences remain strong.

The Janmashtami holiday is also expected to provide an additional boost in certain markets, particularly Gujarat, where the festival period traditionally sees increased cinema footfalls.

However, these figures are estimates based on advance sales and market trends and should not be treated as final box-office collections.

Strong Response in Hindi Belt

The film’s advance booking has reportedly been particularly encouraging in Delhi-UP and other Hindi-speaking markets.

At the same time, Maharashtra has been somewhat slower compared with those circuits. Trade observers have pointed out that September 4 is not a holiday in Maharashtra, which could partly explain the difference in advance sales.

The overall performance will ultimately depend on how audiences respond once the film opens across theatres.

Why the Opening Is Significant

Mirzapur: The Movie is an interesting experiment for the Hindi film industry because it takes a hugely popular streaming franchise and moves it to the big screen.

The original series developed a massive fan following through its characters, dialogues and crime-drama storyline. Bringing those characters into a theatrical format gives the film a built-in audience, but it also creates a challenge: convincing OTT viewers to pay for a theatrical experience.

The advance booking suggests that a substantial section of the franchise’s fan base is willing to make that transition.

Trade analysts believe the film’s established intellectual property is one of its biggest strengths. At the same time, the response to the most recent season of the series was not as strong as earlier seasons, which could have limited the film’s potential to some extent.

The OG Cast Returns

One of the biggest attractions is the return of several familiar faces from the Mirzapur universe.

The cast includes Pankaj Tripathi as Kaleen Bhaiya, Ali Fazal as Guddu Pandit and Divyenndu as Munna Tripathi, along with Rasika Dugal, Shweta Tripathi, Rajesh Tailang, Sheeba Chaddha, Shriya Pilgaonkar, Harshita Gaur and Abhishek Banerjee.

The film also features new additions such as Ravi Kishan, Jitendra Kumar, Sonal Chauhan, Mohit Raina and Sushant Singh, among others.

The combination of the original cast and new performers is expected to be one of the film’s major selling points.

Directed by Gurmmeet Singh

Mirzapur: The Movie is directed by Gurmmeet Singh, who has previously been associated with the Mirzapur franchise.

The film is produced by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani under Excel Entertainment. It is scheduled to arrive in cinemas on September 4, 2026.

The movie’s theatrical performance could also influence how streaming franchises are adapted for cinemas in the future.

Word of Mouth Will Decide the Long-Term Run

While the advance booking has provided an impressive start, the film’s performance after the opening day will depend heavily on audience response and word of mouth.

A strong opening would give Mirzapur: The Movie a major advantage, but positive reviews and audience reactions will determine whether it can maintain momentum through the weekend.

The film is also releasing at a time when Hanuman Ansh has been performing strongly at the box office. However, trade observers believe the two films appeal to substantially different audiences, meaning direct competition may be limited.

Mirzapur Ready for Its Big-Screen Test

With advance bookings crossing the one-lakh mark at the major national chains, Mirzapur: The Movie has clearly generated significant theatrical curiosity.

The latest trade estimate places the film’s opening potential at ₹20 crore-plus, with ₹25 crore also within reach.

Now, all eyes are on the first-day audience response. If the film succeeds in converting the massive Mirzapur fan base into theatrical footfalls, it could establish an important benchmark for future OTT-to-theatre adaptations.

For now, Kaleen Bhaiya, Guddu Pandit and Munna Tripathi are ready to bring the Mirzapur madness to the big screen — and the advance booking suggests audiences are ready to return to the world of Purvanchal.
