Mumbai [India], August 17:

Mumbai, August 17 :
Mumbai Rains : Heavy rainfall lashed Mumbai on Sunday morning, causing widespread waterlogging, traffic congestion, and delays in suburban train services. Commuters faced long travel hours as major roads including the Western Express Highway, Eastern Freeway, and Sion-Panvel highway witnessed bumper-to-bumper traffic.

Several low-lying areas such as Dadar, Sion, Kurla, Andheri, and Chembur reported waterlogging, forcing vehicles to move slowly. BEST bus services were also partially diverted in some routes due to flooded stretches.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Mumbai, forecasting more heavy rainfall over the next 24 hours. Officials have urged citizens to avoid unnecessary travel and take precautions in waterlogged areas.

Suburban train services on both the Western and Central Railway lines experienced delays ranging from 10 to 20 minutes, adding to the inconvenience of office-goers and weekend travelers. Despite the disruptions, railway officials confirmed that services were operational and no major cancellations were reported.

Meanwhile, civic workers from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) were deployed to clear waterlogged areas and unclog drains. Pumping stations across the city have been activated to prevent further flooding.

The heavy showers brought relief from the humid weather but also raised concerns about potential landslides in hilly areas around the city and rising water levels in the Mithi River.

Authorities have advised residents to track official weather updates, avoid venturing into flooded zones, and ensure safety during the ongoing monsoon spell.
