The head of the Indian Olympic Association, PT Usha, has harshly criticised the wrestlers’ public protest against the alleged sexual harassment by Brijbhushan Sharan Singh, the president of the Wrestling Federation of India.

The BJP MP Mr. Singh has refuted the accusations and said he will battle tenaciously to establish his innocence.
Vinesh Phogat, Bajrang Punia, Sakshi Malik, Ravi Dahiya, and Deepak Punia are wrestlers who have been protesting Mr. Singh and requesting that the government act on their complaint.

They have also requested urgent action from Ms. Usha in a letter.

But, Ms. Usha criticised the wrestlers for not delaying their decision to participate in a public protest in Delhi until the commission investigating their claims released its report.

“The athletes shouldn’t have demonstrated in public. They ought to have at least waited for the committee’s report. They made a bad decision that is bad for both the nation and the game. It’s a derogatory strategy, “Usha stated.

The committee was established by Anurag Thakur, India’s minister of sports, to investigate the claims made against the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) and its president, Mr. Singh.

The group, which was mandated to submit a report to the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, did so on April 5. But, the ministry has not yet made the conclusions of the six-person group public.
