On the fifth anniversary of Angrezi Medium (March 13, 2025), Radhikka Madan, who starred as Tarika Bansal in the film, took a moment to reflect on her unforgettable experience working with the legendary Irrfan Khan. Their chemistry as a father and daughter in the film created a lasting emotional impact, and Radhikka shared her heartfelt thoughts about the late actor, who tragically passed away just weeks after the film’s release.
Irrfan Khan’s portrayal of Champak Bansal, a humble father who will go to any length for his daughter, Tarika, was one of the actor’s finest. For Radhikka, playing Tarika opposite Irrfan was a life-changing experience, and she continues to remember the lessons he taught her.
In a post on social media marking the film’s anniversary, Radhikka wrote, “It still feels unreal that it’s been five years since Angrezi Medium was released. I had the privilege of working alongside a legend—someone whose talent, humility, and dedication to the craft left a mark on everyone he met. His portrayal of Champak Bansal was unforgettable, and it was an honor to be a part of his last film.”
For Radhikka, working with Irrfan was more than just an opportunity to learn from a seasoned actor. It was a chance to absorb his approach to life and acting, which continues to influence her today. She recalls how Irrfan would often give her advice, not just about acting but about handling challenges in life. “Irrfan sir was always calm, always ready to help. His wisdom, his quiet confidence, and his generous nature made him one of the most incredible mentors anyone could ask for,” she explained. “He taught me how to trust the character and to never stop being a student of the craft.”
Their on-screen chemistry was evident, as their relationship as father and daughter felt genuine. The movie’s theme of selfless parental love, where a father sacrifices everything to support his daughter’s dreams, was portrayed with depth and authenticity. Radhikka admitted that working with Irrfan brought an emotional depth to the character of Tarika that she hadn’t anticipated. “The bond between Tarika and Champak was central to the story. To portray that relationship with someone as talented as Irrfan made every scene feel real,” she said.
For Radhikka, the most significant lesson learned from Irrfan was the importance of authenticity. “Irrfan sir taught me that the best performances are rooted in truth. He never overacted or tried to do something flashy. He made every moment feel grounded and believable. Watching him work was like a masterclass in acting.”
Despite Angrezi Medium receiving a warm reception from audiences, the film was released just as the world plunged into the COVID-19 pandemic, and then, just weeks later, the devastating news of Irrfan’s passing shook the world. “When I heard the news of his death, it felt like a part of me went with him. He was such an incredible person and artist, and it was heartbreaking to know that I would never get the chance to work with him again,” Radhikka shared.
Reflecting on the legacy left behind by Irrfan Khan, Radhikka said, “He may no longer be with us, but his work continues to inspire me and everyone who has been touched by it. He taught us that acting is about being real and being in the moment. His memory will live on through his films, and I’m forever grateful to have been a part of his final journey.”
