A shocking incident in Navi Mumbai has once again raised serious concerns over public safety during the monsoon season. Two college students suffered electric shocks after coming in contact with a live electrical current while walking through a waterlogged stretch near the LP Bridge on the Sion–Panvel Highway in Nerul.

According to preliminary information, the girls were returning home when they entered a flooded section of the road. Unaware of the danger beneath the water, they reportedly came in contact with a live electrical wire, resulting in a severe electric shock. Both students collapsed on the spot, creating panic among commuters and local residents.

A nearby auto-rickshaw driver acted swiftly and displayed remarkable presence of mind. Using a wooden branch, he managed to pull the students away from the electrified area without putting himself at risk. His timely action is believed to have prevented a far more serious tragedy.

The injured students were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where they are currently undergoing treatment. Doctors have reported that both are in stable condition, bringing relief to their families and well-wishers.

Following the incident, officials from the civic administration and the electricity department reached the location to inspect the site. A preliminary inquiry suggests that an exposed or damaged underground electrical cable may have allowed electricity to spread through the accumulated rainwater. Authorities have initiated a detailed investigation to determine the exact cause and fix responsibility.

The incident has once again highlighted the dangers posed by waterlogged roads during heavy rainfall. Citizens have urged authorities to inspect underground electrical infrastructure, repair damaged cables, and improve drainage systems before such accidents claim innocent lives.

With monsoon rains continuing across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, residents are advised to avoid walking through flooded roads whenever possible and immediately report any suspected electrical hazards to the concerned authorities.
