A shocking murder has sent shockwaves through Navi Mumbai after a 19-year-old youth was found dead following a suspected attack with a sharp-edged weapon near Vashi’s popular Mini Seashore area.
The victim has been identified as Sujalkumar Mahato, who reportedly worked at a Chinese hotel in Koparkhairane. The incident came to light in the early hours of Saturday, August 29, when his body was found near the Mini Seashore area.
Youth Found With Serious Injuries
According to preliminary information, Mahato was allegedly attacked by an unidentified person during the early hours of Saturday. He sustained serious injuries, particularly to his head and other parts of his body, following which he died.
Reports suggest the attack took place at around 4 am. The accused allegedly fled from the spot after the assault. The exact sequence of events leading to the murder is still being investigated.
Vashi Police and Crime Branch Begin Investigation
Soon after receiving information about the incident, teams from the Vashi Police, Crime Branch and forensic department reached the location.
Investigators have collected evidence from the crime scene and are examining CCTV footage from the surrounding area to identify and trace the attacker. Multiple police teams have reportedly been deployed as part of the investigation.
Motive Behind Murder Still Unknown
At present, police have not established the motive behind the killing.
Investigators are looking into several possible angles, including whether Mahato knew the attacker or if a personal dispute may have led to the assault. Reports have also raised questions about possible criminal gang involvement due to the alleged use of a sharp weapon, but police have not officially confirmed any connection to an organised gang.
Police Continue Search for Accused
A murder case has been registered, and the search for the unidentified attacker is underway.
The killing has caused concern among residents, particularly because the incident occurred near the usually busy Mini Seashore area in Vashi. Police are now focusing on CCTV footage, forensic evidence and the victim’s recent movements to establish what happened in the hours before the attack.
Further details are expected as the investigation progresses.
