The work on the Airport Express Line connecting Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) to the upcoming Navi Mumbai airport is set to begin soon.

NMMETRO

The proposed Navi Mumbai airport will soon be connected to Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) by a metro line.

The estimated construction cost of the 35 km-long Airport Express Line is Rs 15,000 crore, with a daily passenger volume of 9 lakh.

NEW METRO CORRIDOR

Two development agencies, MMRDA, will build metro line 8 from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) to Mankhurd (11.1 km) through Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), while City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) will be extending the line from Mankhurd to Navi Mumbai airport.

Between this airport and Mumbai’s international airport, there is no mass rapid transit system (MRTS). The Metropolitan Region Development Authority’s (MMRDA) master plan has included the metro for Navii Mumbai Airport since 2014.

This metro line will, according to officials, be partially subterranean on the Mumbai side. The route from Andheri to the Eastern Express Highway in Ghatkopar is probably going to be completed underground. It will be elevated from Ghatkopar to Mankhurd via the Ghatkopar-Mankhurd link road.

From the Navi Mumbai airport, commercial operations are most likely to begin in 2025.
