Navi Mumbai, July 26 – Navi Mumbai Rains Today – The city woke up to intense rainfall on Friday morning as a fresh spell of monsoon showers lashed several parts of Navi Mumbai, causing significant waterlogging and traffic congestion in multiple areas. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the heavy rainfall is expected to continue for the next 24–48 hours, with isolated places receiving extremely heavy downpours.
🌧️ Areas Worst Affected by Rainfall Today
Localities such as Vashi, Nerul, Airoli, Ghansoli, and Belapur reported waterlogging on major roads and internal lanes. Commuters heading toward Mumbai via the Sion-Panvel Highway or Thane-Belapur Road faced long delays due to slow-moving traffic and visibility issues.
Footage shared on social media showed several low-lying areas submerged under 1-2 feet of water, with civic authorities deploying pumps to clear excess rainwater.
“We received nearly 120 mm of rain in the past 12 hours. Stormwater drains are working, but the volume has been unusually high,” said a CIDCO official in Vashi.
🌦️ IMD Forecast for Navi Mumbai – July 26 & 27
The IMD has placed Navi Mumbai under a yellow alert, indicating moderate to heavy rainfall with a risk of localized flooding. Temperatures are expected to range between 24°C and 29°C, with humidity remaining over 90%.
Next 48 Hours Outlook:

🚌 Traffic & Local Train Update
Mumbai local trains on the Harbour Line and Trans-Harbour Line witnessed minor delays, though services are largely functional. BEST buses are rerouting some trips in flooded zones of Nerul and Koparkhairane.
Traffic police have advised commuters to use alternate routes via Palm Beach Road or the MIDC lanes in case of blockages on the Sion-Panvel corridor.

🌍 Environmental Impact & Citizen Responsibility
Experts warn that urban flooding in Navi Mumbai is partly due to unchecked construction and lack of percolation areas. Environmentalists continue to stress on the need for green zones and eco-drainage systems to combat annual monsoon chaos.
“If we do not redesign drainage planning based on topography and climate change trends, these issues will only worsen,” said Dr. Ashwini Bapat, urban ecologist.
