Mumbai Rains Update Wreak Havoc: Roads Flooded, Trains Delayed

Mumbai continues to battle extreme monsoon fury as heavy rainfall lashed several parts of the city early Friday morning, leading to severe waterlogging in key low-lying areas like Dadar, Sion, Kurla, and Andheri.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has marked Mumbai under an “orange alert” till Saturday, warning of continued moderate to heavy showers.

Local Train Disruptions

Suburban rail services, the lifeline of Mumbai, were delayed by 15–20 minutes on the Central and Harbour lines, with some services briefly halted due to water on tracks between Kurla and Vidyavihar.

Commuters were seen wading through knee-deep water, and authorities urged people to avoid unnecessary travel.

Flight Operations Affected

Several flights at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport were delayed due to low visibility and weather conditions. No major cancellations have been reported yet, but passengers have been advised to check flight statuses before heading to the airport.

BMC Flood Control in Action

The BMC’s disaster management team has deployed 24×7 emergency pumps to drain out water in flood-prone zones. Control rooms are fully active, and helplines have been shared across social media channels for citizen assistance.

Residents have been advised to avoid manholes, wear rubber footwear, and stay indoors during high-tide hours.

High Tide Alert Today

The high tide is expected around 4:45 PM with waves touching over 4.5 meters. This may worsen the situation in waterlogged areas and slow down drainage further.

Citizens React

Mumbaikars took to social media sharing images and videos of submerged streets and stranded buses. Several called for permanent infrastructure upgrades and sustainable drainage planning to cope with the annual flood chaos.

Advisory: What You Can Do

  • Avoid unnecessary travel, especially during peak rainfall hours.
  • Follow official updates from BMC and IMD.
  • Keep emergency numbers and battery backup ready.
  • Stay hydrated and use waterproof gear if stepping out.

Mumbai’s Friday commute turned chaotic as relentless monsoon showers soaked the city. While the BMC and railway teams are actively working on control measures, caution and preparedness remain the need of the hour.
