As the technology sector braces for economic headwinds, Google revealed earlier this year that it will be laying off 12,000 employees, or around 6% of its workforce.

Together with other cost-cutting initiatives, the corporation has recently reduced complimentary lunches and fitness courses for current employees and asked employees to share desks.
Business Insider reported that employees were informed that the company’s micro kitchens – which offer staff members free snacks like cereal, espresso, and seltzer water – will be shut on days that typically have a significantly lower volume based on a memo from chief financial officer Ruth Porat to Googlers.

The article also stated that the corporation will not allocate funds towards purchasing equipment like laptops and that the benefits will vary depending on the demands and trends seen in each working space.

We’ll be able to save much here because equipment is a substantial investment for a business of our size.

We have high standards for providing benefits, incentives, and workplace amenities that lead the industry, and we will keep doing so in the future.

Porat reportedly stated in the message that “certain programmes need to develop for how Google works today.

As we’ve made clear in the past, our company’s objective is to save money over the long term through increasing speed and efficiency.

As part of this, we’re making some practical changes to help us stay responsible stewards of our resources while continuing to deliver industry-leading perks, benefits, and facilities.
On January 20, Google CEO Sundar Pichai said that the corporation will be cutting jobs across the board.
