Mumbai [India], October 15: Superstar Rajinikanth’s much-awaited sequel Jailer 2 is heading towards a major box-office opening, with strong advance bookings raising expectations of a worldwide opening-day collection exceeding ₹100 crore. The film is scheduled to arrive in theatres on October 15, 2026, bringing back Rajinikanth as the popular character Tiger Muthuvel Pandian.
According to Pinkvilla’s box-office preview published on October 14, the film had collected approximately ₹32 crore from first-day advance bookings in India at the time of tracking. The domestic advance figure was expected to cross ₹35 crore by the end of the day, while bookings for the extended four-day opening weekend were approaching the ₹50 crore mark.
Overseas markets have also contributed significantly to the film’s advance sales. Pinkvilla reported more than US$3 million in overseas pre-sales, taking the estimated worldwide first-day advance booking total beyond ₹60 crore. The final advance figure was projected to approach ₹70 crore, although the numbers remained estimates ahead of the theatrical release.
The response has been particularly encouraging in Kerala and Karnataka, two important markets for Tamil cinema and Rajinikanth’s films. Tamil Nadu has also recorded substantial advance bookings, while the Middle East has emerged as another notable overseas market. The film’s performance across these regions will play an important role in determining its opening-day total.
The sequel follows the success of Jailer, released in 2023, which became a major commercial hit and reportedly grossed more than ₹600 crore worldwide. The popularity of the original film has helped build expectations around the sequel, with audiences keen to see Rajinikanth return in the role of Tiger Muthuvel Pandian.
Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, Jailer 2 also brings back music composer Anirudh Ravichander. The combination of Rajinikanth’s star power, the franchise’s established audience and the anticipation surrounding the sequel has contributed to the strong pre-release interest.
Despite the encouraging advance sales, the film’s final opening will depend on ticket sales on release day, audience turnout, show occupancy and its reception among viewers. Advance bookings provide an indication of initial demand, but they do not determine the final box-office result.
Pinkvilla’s preview projected that Jailer 2 could cross the ₹100 crore mark worldwide on its opening day. This remains a trade forecast rather than a confirmed collection. The actual figures will become clearer after the film completes its first day in theatres and verified box-office estimates are reported.
With Rajinikanth returning to one of his recent popular franchises, Jailer 2 is entering its theatrical run amid high expectations. Its opening-day performance will be closely watched by the Tamil film industry, particularly as trade analysts assess whether the sequel can match or surpass the commercial success of the first instalment.
