Avinash Jadhav, the leader of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), was arrested by Mumbai Police early on July 8, 2025, in preparation for a planned demonstration in Mira-Bhayandar. Opposing perceived injustices against Marathi-speaking people in the area was the goal of the protest.
Jadhav was determined to go ahead with the protest even after the police denied him permission, and he encouraged Marathi people to turn out in force. As a result, at 3:30 AM, police arrested him from his home and placed him in custody at the Kashimira Police Station. Other MNS officials in Vasai and Virar were also detained by police as part of a larger preventive measure.
Jadhav accused the police of violating Marathi people’s right to free speech and acting under political pressure. He underlined that the demonstration was a protest against the Marathi community’s and language’s marginalization in the region. The demonstration was supposed to start at the Balaji Hotel at ten in the morning and end close to Mira Road Station. However, the event’s status became unclear because of the police’s preventive measures.
