Thane, August 19: Continuous heavy rainfall has brought daily life to a standstill in Mumbra, with several low-lying areas and main roads witnessing severe waterlogging since early morning.
Local residents reported rising water levels in residential colonies, shops, and internal lanes. The situation worsened near Mumbra Bypass Road and Railway Station areas, where water accumulation has disrupted normal traffic flow.
Vehicular movement remained slow on key stretches, with several two-wheelers and cars stranded in knee-deep water. Commuters faced delays as public transport, including buses and autos, struggled to operate in the submerged stretches.
Authorities have deployed disaster management teams and pumps in some areas, but residents expressed concerns about inadequate drainage and delayed response. Local shopkeepers in the affected markets reported financial losses due to water entering their establishments.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted continued rainfall in the region, warning of possible heavy showers in the coming hours. Citizens have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel and take precautions.
Mumbra residents are now demanding long-term solutions to recurring flooding issues, especially in low-lying zones, where heavy rain regularly disrupts daily life.
