Navi Mumbai [India], September 21: A massive fire broke out at a furniture and sofa godown in Navi Mumbai’s Digha area on Sunday evening, September 20, sending thick clouds of smoke and flames into the sky and creating panic among residents nearby. The incident took place in the Eshwarnagar area near Mukund Company at around 6:55 pm, according to fire department information cited in local reports.
The fire reportedly spread rapidly after breaking out inside the godown because the premises contained a large quantity of wooden furniture, sofas, foam, mattresses and other combustible materials. Videos showing the intense flames and heavy smoke from the incident have since circulated on social media, drawing attention to the scale of the blaze.
As soon as the fire was reported, fire brigade teams were rushed to the location. Given the intensity of the blaze, additional fire tenders were called in from other fire stations in Navi Mumbai. Firefighters worked from different sides of the premises and used continuous water sprays to prevent the flames from spreading to nearby industrial units and buildings.
Reports indicate that around five to six fire engines were deployed during the firefighting operation.
