Navi Mumbai [India], April 28:

In a major corruption crackdown in Navi Mumbai, a senior civic official has landed in legal trouble after being caught allegedly accepting a bribe. The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested a Deputy Municipal Commissioner (DMC) of the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation, marking a significant development in ongoing efforts to curb corruption in civic administration.

According to officials, the accused officer was allegedly caught red-handed while accepting a bribe of ₹42,000 from a subcontractor. The payment was reportedly linked to clearing a pending bill related to official work, following which the ACB laid a trap and executed the arrest at the civic headquarters.

Following the arrest, the official was taken into custody, and as per government rules, he was suspended after remaining in custody for more than 48 hours. The case has drawn significant attention due to the senior position held by the accused within the municipal system.

During the investigation, officials conducted a search at the accused’s residence in Nerul, where they reportedly recovered gold ornaments weighing around 388 grams along with cash amounting to ₹1.48 lakh. Authorities are now examining whether these assets are disproportionate to his known sources of income.

Further details reveal that the officer is also linked to residential properties, including flats jointly owned with family members. The ACB is expanding its probe to determine if there are additional financial irregularities or involvement of other officials in similar activities.

After being in custody, the accused was later granted bail by a local court, bringing temporary relief while the investigation continues. However, officials have made it clear that the probe is still active and more revelations could emerge in the coming days.

This case has once again highlighted concerns around corruption within civic bodies and the need for strict monitoring and accountability. Authorities have reiterated their commitment to taking firm action against any wrongdoing, regardless of rank or position.

As the investigation unfolds, this incident stands as a strong message — anti-corruption agencies are actively tracking and acting against malpractice in public offices.
