According to police officials, the victim, a resident of Vashi, came in contact with the accused through a reference in December 2025. The fraudster introduced himself as a specialist capable of treating knee ailments without surgery, which convinced the elderly man to proceed with the treatment.

The accused allegedly visited the victim’s home multiple times and conducted fake treatment sessions using unusual methods and equipment. Over the course of these visits, he demanded a large sum of money as fees and managed to collect ₹5 lakh in cash from the victim.

The situation took a turn when the victim noticed no improvement in his condition. Attempts to contact the so-called doctor failed, raising suspicion. Realizing he had been cheated, the elderly man approached the police and filed a complaint.

Based on the complaint, an FIR has been registered under relevant sections related to cheating. Police have confirmed that an investigation is currently underway and efforts are being made to trace the accused.

Officials also highlighted that such scams often target senior citizens by exploiting their health concerns and trust. They have urged the public to verify medical credentials before undergoing any treatment, especially from individuals offering home-based or non-surgical cures.

This incident once again highlights the growing trend of fraud cases in urban areas, where criminals use innovative tactics to deceive unsuspecting victims. Authorities have advised citizens to remain alert and report any suspicious activity immediately.

As the investigation progresses, more details are expected to emerge regarding the accused and whether others have been targeted in a similar manner.
