Navi Mumbai: The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has busted a major milk adulteration racket in Navi Mumbai’s Mahape MIDC area, leading to the seizure and destruction of thousands of litres of suspected adulterated milk and other dairy products.
According to reports, a special FDA team carried out a raid at M/s P.K. Dairy on August 19 following confidential information. During the operation, officials allegedly caught an accused diluting milk inside a tanker using a mixture involving skimmed milk powder and chilled water.
4,710 Litres of Milk Seized and Destroyed
The crackdown resulted in the seizure and destruction of 4,710 litres of adulterated and suspect milk, valued at approximately ₹1.85 lakh, according to the official information reported by PTI.
Officials also seized:
- 129.5 kg of paneer
- 473 kg of skimmed milk powder
- 88.4 kg of cream
The dairy was reportedly operating without a valid food safety licence and was shut down following the action.
Milk Supplied Across Navi Mumbai and Thane Areas
Investigators found that the allegedly adulterated milk was being supplied as pure cow or buffalo milk to dairy outlets across several areas, including:
- Thane
- Airoli
- Kopri
- Digha
- Ghansoli
The investigation has raised serious concerns because the suspected products were allegedly entering the regular local supply chain.
FIR Registered Against 15 Individuals and Entities
An FIR was registered at Turbhe Police Station on August 22 against 15 individuals and entities allegedly connected to the racket.
Authorities have also initiated the process to cancel the food licences of establishments implicated in the case. The investigation is expected to examine the wider supply network and identify how extensively the suspected adulterated milk had reached local markets.
Maharashtra’s Wider Crackdown on Milk Adulteration
The Navi Mumbai operation comes amid a broader crackdown on milk adulteration across Maharashtra. Recent enforcement actions have uncovered multiple cases involving allegedly adulterated or synthetic milk being supplied through different networks in the state.
The latest Mahape raid highlights the growing focus of food safety authorities on monitoring dairy supply chains and taking action against establishments suspected of selling adulterated products.
