Users will be able to edit messages, according to WhatsApp, matching a functionality provided by rival apps like Telegram and Signal.

After being sent, messages can be modified for up to 15 minutes, according to the company.

The US technological behemoth Meta, which also owns Facebook and Instagram, is the company that provides the instant messaging service.

In the upcoming weeks, the capability will be made available to WhatsApp’s 2 billion users. With 487 million users, India is its largest market.

The messaging service wrote in a blog post on Monday, “We’re delighted to give you more control over your chats, from fixing a minor mistake to adding further context to a message.

You only need to long-press on a message that has already been delivered and select “Edit” from the menu for up to fifteen minutes after it continues.

The capability was initially made available by the chat apps Telegram and Signal before WhatsApp announced it.

Facebook, a social media site, first launched the edit feature roughly ten years ago.

At that time, Facebook disclosed that over half of its users visited the website via mobile devices, which are more prone to typos.

Modified updates on Facebook are identified as such. The users can also view the history of the edits.

Twitter, the social media network owned by Elon Musk, said last year that it will allow its paying subscribers to modify their tweets.

In the 30 minutes following posting, tweets can be changed a few times.

When this statement was made, Twitter wrote on its site, “Tweeting will feel more approachable and less stressful.”

“You should be able to participate in the conversation in a way that makes sense to you, and we’ll keep working on ways to make it feel effortless to do just that,” the platform said.
