On September 28, 2023, Tamil actor Vishal Krishna (shown below) released a video in which he claimed that a Central Board of Film Certification employee in Mumbai demanded Rs. 650,000 from him before approving a censor certificate for the Hindi adaptation of his Tamil blockbuster Mark Antony.

On September 29, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting replied to allegations of corruption made against the CBFC in Mumbai by Tamil actor Vishal. The I&B ministry described the occurrence as “extremely unfortunate” and announced that a top officer has been sent to Mumbai to launch an investigation.

In a post on X, MIB stated, “The actor Vishal’s allegations of corruption in the CBFC are very regrettable. The government has no tolerance for corruption, and anybody proven to be complicit will face the harshest sanctions. To start an investigation right away, a senior officer from the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting has been sent to Mumbai.

It added urged everyone to assist by sharing details regarding any other CBFC harassment incidents.

The issue of corruption in CBFC brought forth by actor @VishalKOfficial is extremely unfortunate.

What did Tamil actor Vishal say on the CBFC’s allegations of corruption?

Vishal said that the CBFC in Mumbai accepted a payment of Rs. 6.5 lakh in exchange for censor certification of his film “Mark Antony” in Hindi. He said in a video he posted today on the social media platform X that CBFC officials had demanded a bribe of 6.5 lakh in order to view and certify his movie as U/A.
