The development of a future captain and Rohit Sharma’s prospects in white-ball cricket will be discussed by the Indian Cricket Board (BCCI). Although Rohit has stated that he is prepared to not be considered for T20Is, it is unclear how he feels about his ODI career. It is necessary to develop a long-term captain since the selectors are eager to invest in new potential. Furthermore, with Shreyas Iyer and Shubman Gill in the running, Ajinkya Rahane could not make the Test team.

As Rohit Sharma is expected to concentrate mostly on the Tests, preparing his replacement will be a priority.

NEW DELHI: The Indian cricket board (BCCI) will meet with captain Rohit Sharma and top selector Ajit Agarkar to reassess and create a plan for the next four years across all forms as the dust settles on India’s devastating World Cup final loss. The Times of India is aware that determining Rohit’s white-ball future and developing a future captain would be major talking points.

Sources claim that Rohit has already told the selectors he is okay not being picked for the Twenty20 internationals. It would be intriguing to watch how Rohit views his ODI career, though, since the selectors are eager to invest in new talent. By 2027, when the next ODI World Cup takes place in South Africa, Rohit will be over forty years old. The ICC Champions Trophy, which will take place in Pakistan in 2025, will be the next major ODI competition. India will only play six One-Day Internationals (ODIs) in the next year.

“Rohit has stated that he is okay not being considered for T20Is prior to the ODI World Cup. For the last year, the selectors have made significant investments in young players in T20Is. They are hesitant to take a lengthier break from that plan because the T20 World Cup is scheduled for June of next year. There is not much room for Rahane with Shubman Gill batting at No. 3 and Shreyas Iyer returning to the Test team. As a backup wicketkeeper for the Test matches, KL Rahul may also be taken into consideration, the source added.

Next month, India will play three One-Day Internationals (ODIs) in South Africa before to a two-Test series. The Test players may have an excellent opportunity to adjust to South African conditions during the ODI series. According to sources, the board and selectors won’t start working on finalizing an ODI schedule until after the next T20 World Cup and IPL. The second significant obstacle is developing a long-term captain.

As of right now, it appears like Rohit will devote a significant amount of his attention on the Test format for the next World Test Championship cycle, which goes through 2025. A major item on the agenda is grooming a captain for the lengthier forms. Selectors could search for alternatives in ODIs since Hardik Pandya is prone to ailments, the insider asserted. It is evident that the selection committee wishes to proceed and develop a player pool. For the home T20I series against Australia, they have chosen to overlook Sanju Samson and Yuzvendra Chahal for this reason.
