The incident occurred in Sector 23 near the flyover opposite the NMMT bus depot, where a G+3 storeyed structure caught fire, quickly spreading across the premises. According to fire officials, three shops — including a hardware store, an electronics shop, and a ceramics outlet — were completely gutted in the blaze.

Fire Spread Rapidly, Nearby Residents Evacuated

Eyewitnesses reported thick smoke and intense flames rising from the building, forcing nearby residents to step out for safety. The fire also reached a nearby residential apartment, but the family inside managed to evacuate in time, avoiding any injuries.

Authorities confirmed that no casualties or injuries were reported, bringing relief amid what could have turned into a major disaster.

Short Circuit Suspected as Cause

Preliminary investigation suggests that the fire may have originated in the electronics shop on the first floor. Officials believe a short circuit in an air-conditioning unit could be the possible trigger, though a detailed probe is underway.

Massive Firefighting Operation

The fire brigade responded swiftly after receiving an emergency call around 5:33 PM. Multiple teams rushed to the spot, deploying significant resources to control the blaze.

  • Around 10 fire engines and 8 water tankers were pressed into service
  • Firefighters battled the flames for nearly two hours
  • The fire was eventually brought under control, preventing further spread

Officials stated that the quick response helped stop the fire from spreading to nearby structures, minimizing damage beyond the affected shops.

Extent of Damage

While there were no injuries, the fire caused significant financial losses as all three shops were completely destroyed. The exact value of the damage is yet to be assessed.

Local traders expressed concern over safety measures in commercial buildings, especially regarding electrical systems and fire preparedness.
