Mumbai: What began as a humble spiritual initiative in 2007 has today evolved into one of Mumbai’s most respected and widely attended religious gatherings. Completing 19 years of dedicated service to Sanatan Dharma, Shri Purushottam Parivar (Mumbai) organised the grand 151-Mandap Samuhik Shri Satyanarayan Vrat Katha and Shri Harihar Bhagwan Mahapuja at Gopalji Hemraj School Ground, Borivali (East), bringing together thousands of devotees, spiritual seekers, public representatives, business leaders and members of the community from across Mumbai and neighbouring regions.
Founded in 2007 by renowned spiritual leader, scholar and astrologer Pandit Kanhaiya Dwivedi, Shri Purushottam Parivar was established with a vision to preserve Sanatan traditions through collective worship, community service and spiritual awareness. What began with a handful of devotees has, over the last nineteen years, grown into a people’s movement. Organised once every three years during the sacred Purushottam Maas (Adhik Maas), the Shri Harihar Mahapuja has become one of Mumbai’s most anticipated spiritual gatherings, drawing devotees from all sections of society.
This year’s celebration witnessed an overwhelming turnout, with 151 Mandaps established for the collective Shri Satyanarayan Vrat Katha and thousands of devotees participating in the sacred Shri Harihar Mahapuja. The offering of 1,51,000 Bilva leaves and sacred Tulsi leaves symbolising the divine unity of Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu became one of the highlights of the event. The atmosphere throughout the venue reflected devotion, discipline and a shared commitment to preserving India’s rich spiritual heritage.
Reflecting on the journey of the organisation, Founder Pandit Kanhaiya Dwivedi said, “When we started Shri Purushottam Parivar in 2007, our dream was to unite society through faith and preserve the timeless values of Sanatan Dharma. Nineteen years later, seeing thousands of devotees participate with the same devotion is our greatest blessing. This journey belongs to every devotee, volunteer and family who believed in this vision.”
Organiser Amritlal Mishra, who has been associated with the Mahapuja for several years, said the success of the programme was built on months of preparation and teamwork.
“Every edition of this Mahapuja represents months of planning and the selfless efforts of hundreds of volunteers. Our objective has always been to ensure that every devotee returns home with spiritual satisfaction and cherished memories. The overwhelming response encourages us to continue this tradition with even greater dedication,” he said.
The organising committee comprising Vinod Tiwari, Shivbhushan Shukla, Gurudev Mishra, Namvar Chaubey, Neeraj Shukla, Ravindranath Tiwari, Nagendra Mishra, and Rambachan Singh (Dahisar) worked tirelessly to ensure smooth arrangements throughout the programme. Speaking collectively, they said, “Every Mahapuja reminds us that service is the highest form of devotion. Seeing thousands of families gather together strengthens our resolve to continue this journey for generations to come.”
The spiritual gathering also witnessed the presence of several distinguished public representatives who joined devotees in offering prayers. Former Member of Parliament Gopal Shetty, Borivali MLA Sanjay Upadhyay, Magathane MLA Prakash Surve, and Shiv Sena Vibhag Pramukh Ram Yadav congratulated Shri Purushottam Parivar on completing nineteen years of service and appreciated the organisation’s consistent efforts in promoting Sanatan values, cultural heritage and social harmony through community participation.
The event attracted enthusiastic participation from Mumbai’s business fraternity, many of whom have witnessed the growth of Shri Purushottam Parivar over the years.
Rajiv Mishra, owner of Apna Fruit Market, Borivali, described the gathering as “a reflection of the strength of our spiritual traditions and the unity that Sanatan Dharma continues to inspire among people from every walk of life.”
Vashi-based businessman Premchand Jaiswal remarked, “I have seen this initiative grow over the years into a movement that now inspires thousands of devotees. The sincerity of the organisers and the spirit of volunteerism have earned the trust of society.”
Businessman Rajesh Jaiswal from Borivali appreciated the meticulous planning behind the programme, saying, “Managing such a large congregation with discipline and devotion is possible only through genuine teamwork. The organisers and volunteers deserve heartfelt appreciation.”
Echoing similar sentiments, Ramanand Jaiswal, businessman associated with the Vashi APMC Market, said, “Collective prayer strengthens not only faith but also the bonds that unite society. Such initiatives are essential for preserving our cultural identity.”
Rupesh Gupta, associated with Mumbai’s fruit market, praised the organisers’ commitment to service, adding, “The arrangements reflected years of experience, dedication and sincerity. Every devotee could feel the warmth and hospitality throughout the programme.”
Businessmen Dinesh Jaiswal, Ramashankar Dubey, and Manoj Satyanarayan Jaiswal jointly observed that Shri Purushottam Parivar has become an inspiring example of how community participation can preserve India’s spiritual and cultural heritage while bringing people together through devotion.
Santosh Shukla, a real estate professional, said, “In today’s fast-paced world, gatherings like these reconnect families with their roots and reinforce the importance of faith, unity and togetherness.”
Mumbai-based builder Raushan Maloo added, “This is much more than a religious event. It is a movement that inspires unity, service and cultural continuity. The journey of Shri Purushottam Parivar over the last nineteen years deserves appreciation and support.”
The organisers also acknowledged the invaluable contribution of the Mahila Mandal, whose dedicated members played a vital role in welcoming devotees, coordinating volunteers, managing hospitality and ensuring the smooth conduct of the event. Their tireless efforts and selfless service contributed significantly to the success of the Mahapuja.
Sharing his experience as a first-time organiser, Prashant Pandey said the opportunity to serve alongside the senior members of Shri Purushottam Parivar had been both inspiring and enriching.
“Being associated with Shri Purushottam Parivar as an organiser for the first time has been a truly humbling experience. Working under the guidance of Founder Pandit Kanhaiya Dwivedi Ji and alongside the senior organising team showed me that this is much more than an event-it is a family united by faith and selfless service. I feel honoured to have contributed and look forward to serving this noble mission for many years to come,” he said.
As Shri Purushottam Parivar completes nineteen years of dedicated service, its journey from a small spiritual initiative founded in 2007 to one of Mumbai’s most recognised platforms for collective worship stands as a testament to the vision of Founder Pandit Kanhaiya Dwivedi, the unwavering commitment of its organisers, the selfless efforts of hundreds of volunteers and the continued faith of thousands of devotees. More than a religious gathering, the Shri Harihar Mahapuja has evolved into a celebration of devotion, unity, service and cultural pride, reaffirming that the timeless values of Sanatan Dharma continue to inspire communities across generations.
