Maharashtra’s Unity Mall, a distinctive marketplace envisioned by the Central Government to exhibit locally created goods and artifacts to promote improved marketability for them, would be built in Navi Mumbai. The project will be carried out by the City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO), which has set aside a 5,200 square meter site in Ulwe’s sector 12 for the development of a mall.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman unveiled the plan for Unity Malls in each state to support rural artisans, create jobs, and boost the marketability of indigenous items during the union budget 2023–24 presentation on February 1 of this year.
The task of building the Unity Mall has been given to CIDCO. “The best site for building was determined after a meeting called by the Urban Development Department (UDD) in July. A top official stated, “The Detailed Project Report (DPR), which was filed to start the building work, indicated that the project would cost ₹195 crore in total.
The design concept, operating rules, social and environmental impact assessment, and design basis report for structural, fire, and other reasons are all included in the DPR that was sent to the UDD. To monetize the land and recoup the land cost, a request was also made to the UDD to increase the Floor Space Index (FSI).
CIDCO intends to engage experts and architects in order to streamline the construction process. According to preliminary designs, a six-story building with two basements for parking will be built. The building will be equipped with a significant number of stores, food courts, offices, and spaces set aside for staging exhibits and leisure activities.
A digital and book library devoted to Indian arts and crafts is also being developed by CIDCO, along with a special area set aside for training and skill development. The food court is probably going to contain a 7,000 square foot multifunctional hall, guest accommodations, and themed eateries.
The floor layout shows that the demands of small-time female entrepreneurs have been carefully considered, and as a result, features like a children’s play area and creche will be incorporated in the building.
Among the project’s other attractions are an 80,000 square foot parking area, a tiny theater with 120 seats, and an outdoor amphitheater.
“While the project is still in its early stages, the Unity Mall concept is a positive step in providing a platform to the state’s small-scale manufacturers and artisans, and the building that is being designed will cater to these aspects,” the official continued.
