Constitution Day 2023: On November 26, India observes Constitution Day, also known as Samvidhan Divas, commemorating the 132nd birthday of Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar, the head of the Constituent Assembly’s drafting committee and a key figure in the creation of the Constitution. Originally observed as Law Day, the Indian government renamed it Constitution Day in 2015.

The date of India’s 1949 Constitution adoption is November 26. The Constitution went into effect on January 26, 1950.

A renowned activist for the rights of the oppressed, BR Ambedkar led the committee that worked for two years, eleven months, and seventeen days to finalize the text of the Indian Constitution.

Meanwhile, the statue of BR Ambedkar is going to be put on the Supreme Court grounds. President Droupadi Murmu is scheduled to inaugurate the statue on Sunday at 10.30 am, and the event will be broadcast live on television.

Statues of BR Ambedkar with uplifted hands can be seen in most of the nation’s towns, villages, and small and large cities, encouraging people to advance.

On Chief Justice Chandrachud’s initiative, the statue is being put on Supreme Court property, according to sources acquainted with the situation.

Standing seven feet tall on a three-foot base pedestal, the monument to BR Ambedkar features him dressed as a lawyer and holding a copy of the Constitutionn.
