Meta has revealed its premium membership plan for users to become verified, similar to Twitter Blue. Paying users can provide a government ID to have their profile validated.
The membership package for Instagram and Facebook offers additional protection against impersonation in addition to profile verification.
Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp’s parent company, Meta, has announced the establishment of a paid verification service that would grant blue badges on profiles.
On the Web, the subscription costs $11.99 per month, while on iOS, it costs $14.99 per month. Paying users can provide a government ID to have their profile validated.
The service will become first accessible in Australia and New Zealand this week.
What benefits come with Meta’s paid subscription?
The membership package for Instagram and Facebook additionally includes additional protection against impersonation and direct access to customer care in addition to profile verification.
“Good morning!” wrote Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg in his Instagram Meta Channel. The launch of Meta Verified, a subscription service that enables you to verify your account with a government ID, obtain a blue badge, receive additional impersonation protection against accounts claiming to be you, and gain direct access to customer support, is being announced as a new product this week.
Increasing authenticity and security across all of our services is the goal of this new functionality. On the web or on iOS, Meta Verified begins at $11.99 a month.
We’ll begin rolling out in Australia and New Zealand this week, and then soon in additional countries.
Even though Meta hasn’t yet disclosed any information about the programme, there have been rumours about a new membership service going around for a few days.
TechDroider asserts that only profiles, not pages, will be able to access Meta Verified.
In support of the claim, Tech portal shared a screenshot of what looked to be a policy page on Twitter on Saturday.
It said, “To get a verified badge for your profile, sign up for Meta Verified. Please take note that Meta Verified is only accessible for profiles, not for pages.
A validated badge application is still open to Noteworthy Pages.”
This comes after Twitter, another social media platform, began to charge a premium under the Twitter Blue membership, which gives subscribers a blue tick.
On the website and mobile app, the paid service is available to Indian consumers for 650 and 900 INR per month, respectively.
