A Texas federal jury on Friday awarded more than $303 million (approximately Rs. 2,500 crore) to computer memory manufacturer Netlist for Samsung Electronics’s infringement of multiple patents relating to advancements in data processing.

After a six-day trial, the Marshall, Texas jury found that Samsung knowingly violated each of the five patents that Netlist claimed the Korean tech giant had violated with its “memory modules” for high-performance computing.

The Irvine, California-based Netlist filed a lawsuit against Samsung in 2021, claiming that the latter’s memory devices violated its patents by being employed in cloud computing servers and other data-intensive technology.

According to Netlist, its inventions enable users to “derive relevant information from massive amounts of data in a shorter period of time” and improve the power efficiency of memory modules.

Samsung had maintained that the patents were invalid and that the ways in which its technology and Netlist’s technologies functioned differently.

In other developments, it was said that Samsung Electronics was thinking about making Bing, which is owned by Microsoft, the default search engine on its devices in place of Google.
