Mumbai: On Saturday morning, commuters on a local train in Mumbai were taken aback to see a strange passenger riding beside them. When Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman entered their coach and spoke with the passengers, the surprise transformed into an experience of a lifetime.

According to an internet statement from her office, Ms. Sitharaman’s train journey took her from Ghatkopar to Kalyan, two suburbs of Mumbai. Pictures that were uploaded next to it showed her taking selfies in the train with kids and business travelers.

Mumbai’s local trains, which transport over 60 lakh people daily, are regarded as the city’s lifeblood.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, too has taken public transport on several instances and interacted with the commuters.

PM Modi rode the metro between Gundavali and Mogra stations last year after unveiling a few new services. During his journey, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Chief Minister Eknath Shinde of Maharashtra accompanied him.
