Teachers : A portion of Aurangabad candidates taking the Maharashtra-Teacher Aptitude and Intelligence Test (Maha-TAIT) have expressed dissatisfaction over being assigned testing locations in far-off places, even though the exam is being given virtually.

A 25-year-old Aurangabad aspirant claimed to have been given a Pune exam location. “My top two choices for exam locations were Aurangabad and Nagpur, but Pune, which was my third option, was given to me instead. While completing the online registration form, you had to select three options; if you didn’t, Pune was out of the question.

The 30-year-old Aurangabad contender Milind Salwe will also need to fly to Pune for the Maha-TAIT. “Aurangabad was my #1 pick, but now I’ll have to travel farther and pay more money to get to Pune and take the test. Why such far-flung centres have been assigned is beyond my comprehension, he continued.

An Aurangabad-based female candidate who had been assigned an exam site that was her third option described a similar scenario. “Washim was my first option, followed by Akola and Amaravati, because it is my hometown. Amaravati is mentioned on the hall ticket,” she remarked.

From Wednesday until March 3 there will be a window period during which the Maha-TAIT will be conducted online. The candidates argued that the test was being taken virtually and questioned the justification for selecting centres outside of their home cities.

The Maha-TAIT, which must be passed in order to be considered for Maharashtra’s future mega-teacher recruitment drive, is administered by the Maharashtra State Council of Examination (MSCE), which is the authorised authority.

When asked for comment, MSCE Chairman Sharad Gosavi stated that he was engaged in a videoconference.
